Trying to decide what size hula hoop you need can be a daunting challenge, we are here to help. Benefit from our 6+ years making hand crafted hoops and teaching hoop dancers. We’ve got the know-how to help you find a hoop that you will get use out of for years to come. Since hoopers come in all sizes, no hoops are one size fits all. Getting a proper hoop fit is key, especially for a beginner.
In general, the smaller and lighter the hoop the more activity and movement it will take to keep the hoop moving. If your hoop is super small and light (like toy store hoops) it will rotate super fast, too fast for most adult bodies. The larger and heavier hoops are much easier to hoop with for adults since they are made for adult bodies, kids hoops are made for kids bodies.
Measure the height from the floor to the belly button.
You want this to be a base size. We can subtract two inches from this measurement if you are of smaller size and build, consider yourself to be already active and/or like to move/dance to a faster pace/music. If you feel you have a little (or a lot) more to love hanging around your body, let’s add 2-4 inches – but be sure to not go too far above the chest. If you are less than average build or a little shorter you can begin at the belly button.
Children have different considerations than adults do when it comes to measuring a hoop. We suggest using the lightest weight tubing for children. Our polypro hula hoops are the best, most durable option for kids. You may want to try getting a hoop that’s 2-4″ bigger so that your child can grow into the hoop.
